Malaysian Philosophy Society's Vision and Mission

The Malaysian Philosophy Society envisions a world where philosophy plays an important role in enriching the lives of individuals and communities. We aspire to cultivate a community of critical thinkers who are unafraid to question assumptions, challenge norms and seek meaningful solutions to contemporary problems.

What is Practical Philosophy?

Practical Philosophy can be contrasted with Theoretical Philosophy in its subject matters. The former predominantly focuses on revenant issues and problems in life and society, and the latter predominantly on topics that are abstract in nature, such as metaphysics, ontology, epistemology and theology.

Practical Philosophy is also understood as the application of a collection of philosophical skills and techniques across various aspects of life, through Socratic dialogue, philosophical counselling, reflective sessions and critical thinking training and workshops.

Our methodologies of Practical Philosophy encompass the following:
  • Practicality as relevance to everyday life and real-world issues.
  • Practicality as utility, directly implementable to solve everyday problems.
  • Practicality as having causal efficacy; focusing on improving the states of living and society.
  • Practicality as methodological, focusing on skills and the activity of reflective thinking.

Our dialogues, events and programmes are aimed at ANYONE interested in Philosophy or thinking outside their bubbles of knowledge.
  • Our Values

    Inquisitiveness

    Practicality

    Boldness

    Open-mindedness
